Bonus Depreciation
Property depreciation is usually spread out over 27.5 years for residential rental properties and 39 years for commercial properties, but in the Katrina GO Zone, qualified investors can take a 50 percent depreciation on new rental properties in the first year, along with the normal depreciation on the other half.
Eligible properties must be placed in service after Katrina and before the end of 2008 in most counties.
